Stargirl-Friends or Foes?

Stargirl is the friendliest girl in school, yet she has no friends. She gives her homeroom surprises, cheers for everyone, and even celebrates others' successes. In return, the student body of MAHS is somewhat cruel. They abandon her and humiliate her. Why do you suppose with all of her kind deeds, the students react so viciously?
